What to Expect During a Breast Enlargement Consultation

The breast enlargement consultation is a hugely important part of the process. It gives you the chance to ask any questions you have about the procedure and allows the surgeon to evaluate your general health, discuss your motivations and surgical options, and make recommendations about the size and shape of implants. Based on that, you can then make an informed decision about whether breast enhancement is right for you and which implants to go for.

To get the most from this part of the process, you should have some idea of the questions you want to ask and what will be expected of you. It’s natural to be nervous, but don’t be shy about discussing whatever’s on your mind. To help, we have prepared a checklist of questions to ask about breast implants at your boob job consultation. There’s also a detailed breakdown of what the consultation will involve.

Aftercare with Enhance

How to choose the right breast augmentation clinic

Once you’re ready to book a boob job consultation, the first step is to find a clinic with exceptional facilities that delivers the highest standards of surgical and patient care. Your choice of clinic can have a significant impact on how happy you are with the result, so always do your research.

In the UK, you should look for clinics that are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and surgeons who are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC). You can also check the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) to see if the surgeon is a ‘full member’ on the specialist register for plastic surgery. Although BAPRAS and GMC membership is not legally required, you can check if any surgeon is registered (if they claim they are) by visiting the GMC website.

At Enhance Medical Group, we are the UK’s leading day case breast reshaping specialists. That ensures your surgeon has extensive experience performing the exact procedure you want, and you’ll benefit from the latest technologies and techniques. You can also read about the experiences of previous patients and look at their before and after photos

Aftercare is another critical aspect to consider when choosing the right clinic. Aftercare includes ongoing checks to ensure that your recovery is going as planned and the results of the surgery are as expected. It can also include further surgery free of charge in the unlikely event that your expectations have not been met. Not all clinics provide a comprehensive programme of aftercare, while some only do so at an additional cost.

Once you think you have found the right clinic, you can go ahead and book your free boob job consultation. However, if the consultation does not provide answers to all the questions you want to ask about breast implants or leaves you with reservations, you are well within your rights to book a consultation elsewhere.

What does a breast augmentation consultation involve?

The question ‘should I get a boob job?’ is one you have probably answered by now. The breast consultation will build on that by helping you understand what your options are, what you can realistically achieve and how the procedure works.

You will get the opportunity to communicate your vision to the surgeon and ask any questions. They will then take the time to explain:

  • What the procedure involves
  • What the risks and complications are
  • What different types of implants are available
  • The expected recovery time

Your surgeon will also take measurements of your breast tissue and chest wall. Using that information, they will advise you on the optimal width, size and profile of the implant for your particular body type.

Here’s what you can expect from a boob job consultation at the Enhance Medical Group:

  • You will arrive at one of our clinics and be met by our reception team. They will ask to see your ID and for you to complete a medical questionnaire before your consultation
  • Your patient care coordinator will greet you before taking you through to the consultation room. They’ll ask you what your motivations are and what your desired result is before answering any questions you have.
  • You’ll then meet your surgeon, who will assess your anatomy while you’re chaperoned by your patient care coordinator. The surgeon will discuss implant size, projection, shape, incisions, risks, complications and aftercare with you and answer your questions. It can be useful to prepare questions that you want to ask about breast implants before your consultation.
  • Your patient care coordinator will then discuss the cost of the procedure and your availability. They will be able to secure a date for you there and then if you feel ready to go ahead. We ask that you bring a non-padded sports bra along to your consultation so you can try on implants and get an idea of how different sizes and shapes will look. Your patient care coordinator will also measure you for your post-op bra and recommend one from our online shop.
  • After your consultation, your patient care coordinator will follow up with you, answer any other questions you have and arrange your surgery for a time that suits you.

What questions will I need to answer during the consultation?

As well as the questions you want to ask about breast implants, the consultation will also be an opportunity for the patient care coordinator and surgeon to get all the information they need from you. They will want to know about any medical conditions you have or medications you take. We’ll also ask whether you plan to have children in the future, as that can influence the incision site.

From our side, we want to get as clear a picture as possible of what you want to achieve so we can advise on the type of procedure you need and the size, shape and projection of the implant. You can bring photographs of the look you want with you. Alternatively, you may have a bra size in mind. Some patients say things like: “I used to be a DD while I was breastfeeding and I’d love to be that size again”.

What questions should I ask during the consultation?

You can make the most of your boob job consultation by preparing a list of questions you want to ask about breast implants. Common questions include:

  • What are the risks involved with breast surgery?
  • How long does the procedure take?
  • Do I need to bring someone with me?
  • Are breast implants safe?
  • What type of implants feel the most natural?
  • What is the right incision site for me and why?
  • How long do the results last?
  • What happens if something goes wrong?
  • How long will it take for me to recover?
  • When can I go back to work?
  • How much will it cost and what payment options are available?
  • How soon will the surgery be?
  • What happens next?
