Whilst ageing is the most common reason that our patients develop what is known as a turkey neck, there are a number of other factors which can accelerate or worsen this effect such as weight loss – extra weight can make it hard for skin to keep its elasticity and remain tight following weight loss, drinking alcohol and smoking – both make the skin age faster, genetics or high levels of UV exposure.

Neck Fat Removal

The neck tuck procedure itself is carried out under general anaesthetic and can be completed on its own or more commonly, in conjunction with a facelift. The surgery takes around 3 hours to complete and begins by your surgeon making small incisions along the hairline. He or she will then tighten the muscles in the area before stretching the skin, removing the excess, and stitching it in position to create a tight, smooth jawline and neck.

Before the skin is repositioned, some surgeons take the opportunity to remove neck fat in order to sculpt the neck into a more desirable shape. These unwanted fatty deposits are removed in the same way that chin liposuction is performed – by inserting a thin tube into one of the incisions and using suction to draw out the fat.
