What are the Most Natural-Looking Breast Implants? How to get a Natural-Looking Boob Job

During consultations and telephone conversations with prospective clients, one of the most frequent questions we are asked is, “Can breast implants look and feel natural?” It’s a fair question, and our answer is always “yes”. With the advice and expertise of our surgeons, you can get natural-looking breast implants that fit and enhance your overall body shape.

In the early days of breast augmentation, women often wanted larger, attention-grabbing implants. However, we’ve come a long way since then. That’s still something we can do, but now most of our clients want a more natural-looking boob job. Thanks to new techniques, technological improvements and product developments, implants are no longer an obvious ‘add-on’. They can now blend seamlessly with your natural breast tissue to create a subtle result that complements your lifestyle and frame.

Every client has a unique shape and set of requirements when they opt for a breast augmentation procedure. For some, the size and feel determine their choice of implant, while for others, it’s the shape or projection. Whatever your goal, you will have ample time with your surgeon and our team to consider your options.

What are the Most Natural-Looking Breast Implants?

Several factors determine how natural breast implants look and feel, from their size and shape to their placement and profile. Here’s an overview of the main considerations.

Breast implant size

It probably seems obvious, but the size of the implants has a big impact on how natural your breasts will look following surgery. If you have a small frame and limited breast tissue, going too big usually leads to a less-than-natural outcome. That might be the look you want to achieve, but for a natural-looking boob job, avoiding large implants is typically the best option.

As a guide, our breast implants range from 125cc to 800cc – unlike real breasts, they are measured in cubic centimetres rather than cup size. One cup size is around 175cc, and most people typically opt for implants that are between 300cc to 500cc. That leads to an increase in breast size of around two cup sizes, which is about the maximum you can achieve if you want a natural look. That said, larger implants can still look natural if you have more breast tissue to start with. You shouldn’t worry too much about the numbers as the same size implants produce different results for each patient.

Breast implant placement

Another important factor in how natural a breast enlargement looks and feels is where we place the implant – either under or over the muscle. If you don’t have much breast tissue, placing the implant under the muscle will look and feel more natural as it will be covered by both muscle and tissue. With this placement, you should only be able to feel the natural breast as the implant is so well covered.

On the other hand, if you have a good amount of natural breast tissue, placing the implant above the muscle is usually the better option. Your natural tissue will provide a good cover for the implant, leading to natural-looking breasts.

Breast implant type

There are two types of commonly used breast implants: saline and silicone. Saline implants are filled with salt water, which makes them look firmer and rounder. That can give them a very perky and unnatural appearance, particularly in patients without much breast tissue.

Silicone implants are made of a soft, cohesive gel. They are pliable, retain their shape well and are more lightweight than saline implants, giving them a more natural look and feel. They also hang and move more naturally. These benefits are why we only use silicone implants at Enhance Medical.

Breast implant shape

The shape of the implant will also affect the overall result. Implants are available in round and teardrop shapes. Round implants have equal volume at the top and bottom of the implant, which can create a proportionate and attractive result.

However, it’s generally considered that teardrop implants look more natural. Also known as anatomical implants, teardrop implants have more volume at the bottom than the top, which more accurately mimics the shape of natural breasts. Round implants can produce natural-looking results but usually on patients with more breast tissue.

Breast implant profile

Another factor not everyone thinks about is the profile of their implants – that is, how much they project forward from the chest wall when you’re standing. There are three different profiles to choose from, with each affecting how natural the implants look.

  • Low profile implants are fuller at the base and flatter to the chest. That makes them a good fit for women with broader chest frames and naturally wide-set breasts.
  • Moderate profile implants tend to be the most natural-looking breast implants on most body types. They provide a good balance of volume and projection and suit patients with average-width chests.
  • High profile implants are narrower at the base but offer maximum projection, creating a more prominent but less natural-looking silhouette on some patients. They are usually best suited to petite women with narrow chest walls.

As you can see, there are lots of variables if you want a natural-looking boob job, but don’t be discouraged. Your surgeon will consider your anatomy, goals and preferences to help you achieve your desired result.

Why might a boob job look more fake?

In some respects, breast augmentation is a balancing act. The main reason most of our patients choose to undergo breast augmentation is because they want larger breasts, but bigger does not always mean better. It’s important to think of breast augmentation as a procedure to enhance and not just enlarge the breasts. As well as increasing their size, it should improve their shape, correct unevenness and create a more balanced figure and silhouette.

If your goal is simply enlargement, a dramatic increase in size often leads to an unnatural-looking boob job. For some people, that’s fine, but as we’ve discussed, if you want natural-looking breast implants, it’s all about striking the right balance between implant size, your body shape and the existing breast tissue. Here are a few other reasons why a boob job might look fake.

  • Disproportionality – The implants you choose should be in proportion with your body frame. If a petite woman jumps from an A cup to a D cup with a higher profile implant, it will inevitably look less natural. The emphasis should be on making subtle changes that enhance the natural look of the breasts.
  • Poor placement – Inadequate implant placement can also create a less natural-looking result. Using implants that are too big for the patient’s body frame and placing them over the muscle can make the implant edges visible, creating an unnatural appearance.
  • An inexperienced surgeon – Always choose a surgeon who specialises in breast augmentation. They will help you choose the right implants for your specific body type so you can achieve the desired result.
  • Implants with an unnatural shape – Implants with too much volume at the top of the implant can create an upper breast that looks unnaturally large and fake.
  • Capsular contracture – This complication occurs when the scar tissue tightens and hardens around the implants. The breasts subsequently become too firm and look less natural in their appearance.

Are there any natural alternatives to breast implants?

Breast augmentation is the most common method of breast enhancement in the UK, with over 6,700 procedures performed last year. In recent times, there has been an increase in patients asking us about ‘natural breast implants’ and ‘natural breast enlargement’ alternatives. Unfortunately, there are no natural ways to increase breast size that have been proven to work. That includes diets, supplements, pumps, creams and everything else.

Fat transfer breast augmentation does offer an alternative to implants that can increase the volume of the breasts. In this procedure, the surgeon uses liposuction to remove excess fat from other parts of the body. They then inject it into the breasts to increase their volume and improve their shape. Fat transfer can produce natural-looking results. However, there are limits to the amount of fat you can transfer. It often requires multiple procedures to get a significant size increase, which can make it very expensive.
