Breast Enlargement

Should I Get a Boob Job? 6 Reasons Why Women Get Breast Implants

Why do women get breast implants? You might think the answer to that question is obvious – because they want bigger boobs. In some cases, it is as simple as that. However, there are also a host of other reasons why women choose to get breast implant surgery.

Women may get a boob job because they are unhappy with the shape and size of their breasts, want to correct uneven breasts or regain the breast shape they had before pregnancy. Breast implants can be transformative for many people. They can help to restore lost confidence and bring significant psychological benefits.

Whatever your reasons for wanting breast implant surgery, you do not have to justify them to anyone. However, you should be clear about your reasons in your own mind, have realistic expectations of the results and be sure that breast implants are the best way to achieve your goals. These are all things we will explore with you on your journey with Enhance Medical Group.

What is breast augmentation surgery?

If you’re wondering ‘should I get a boob job?’, it’s important to know exactly what the process involves.

Breast augmentation surgery is the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure performed on women in the UK. It involves placing breast implants – either saline or silicone gel – under the breast tissue or chest muscles to increase the size and shape of the breasts. You can choose between different implant types, sizes and profiles to achieve a specific look or goal.

As with any surgery, getting breast implants is a big decision. However, most women are very satisfied with the outcome. In one study, 98% of women said the results of breast augmentation met or exceeded their expectations, with 92% reporting improved self-esteem and 64% saying it had given them an improved quality of life.

The most common reasons to get a boob job

There are all sorts of reasons why women choose to get a boob job. Below are some of the most common that we see in our hospitals and clinics throughout the UK.

Small breasts

Women with small breasts, and particularly those who feel their breasts are disproportionately small for their bodies, often get implants to increase their size and volume. This is probably the most common reason women choose to get breast augmentation surgery in our clinics.

Many women consider larger breasts to be a sign of youth, beauty and femininity, and getting implants can boost their confidence and make them feel more attractive and desirable.

Asymmetrical breasts

The most common assumption with asymmetrical breasts is that one boob is bigger than the other. However, as well as a variation in size, a difference in shape, fullness and projection can also cause uneven breasts.

Asymmetric breasts can be the result of several different factors, such as growth spurts during puberty and uneven oestrogen levels. Around 50% of women feel that their breasts are slightly or significantly uneven, and for some women, that uneven appearance can damage their self-esteem and be a source of psychological distress.

Depending on the cause of the uneven breasts, a breast uplift, reduction or enlargement may be the best solution. In the case of an enlargement, the surgeon will use implants to increase the size of the small breast and create a more balanced appearance.

Tubular breasts

Tubular breasts, also known as tuberous breast syndrome, is a relatively common condition in which the breast can appear elongated in shape rather than typically round. It occurs when the breast tissue does not develop fully during puberty. It can affect one or both breasts and lead to a lack of symmetry. It can also cause a large or puffy nipple and a sizeable gap between the breasts.

Breast augmentation surgery can be a very effective solution, as implants can address the missing volume and produce a rounder, more natural breast shape. We can also reposition or reduce the size of the areola if it’s required.

After pregnancy

Pregnancy can take its toll on a woman’s breasts, particularly after multiple children. Two of the main issues here are a loss of breast volume and sagging, with the latter caused by the stretching of the ligaments and connective tissues by the heavier breasts. In this case, breast implants can be highly beneficial.

Breast implants can help to fill out saggy breast tissue and provide better volume, cleavage and fullness. A breast uplift can also be a beneficial procedure, particularly if sagging is a factor. One of our experienced plastic surgeons will help you determine the most appropriate procedure during your initial consultation.

After weight loss

If you lose a considerable amount of weight, you might expect your reward to be perkier breasts. Unfortunately, often the opposite is true. When you lose weight, the extra fatty tissue that has built up shrinks away and the breasts hollow out. The heavier breasts you have when carrying extra weight put more strain on the ligaments and connective tissue, which can make your breasts sag more than they used to.

In this case, breast implants can help you regain a fuller chest while retaining your trim waistline and healthy weight. The implant will provide extra volume and improve the shape of the breast. If the skin has sagged, you may also benefit from a skin tightening procedure known as a breast lift.

To increase confidence and self-esteem

Another common reason women ask ‘should I get a boob job?’ is to boost their confidence and self-esteem. This also underpins many of the other reasons we’ve discussed.

Many women want to look younger, their clothes to fit better and to look as good as they feel. And for women whose self-image is affected by their breasts, getting implants can give them a new lease of life. Breast augmentation surgery can lead to improved relationships, a more fulfilling social life, more success at work and even a better sex life.
