What are Tubular Breasts?

Tubular breasts, also known as tuberous breasts or tubular boobs, is a common condition which causes breasts to appear misshapen, underdeveloped and cylindrical/pointed in shape and affects both women and men.

While it is common for breasts to differ in size and shape, those who suffer with tuberous breasts will see more significant differences between both breasts (known as breast asymmetry), with severity varying from person to person.

How Do I Know if I Have Tubular Breasts?

Features of Tubular Breasts
The severity and appearance of tubular breasts varies from person to person, but the most frequently occurring characteristics of tubular breasts include:

  • Breasts appear cylindrical or pointed instead of round
  • Wider spacing between the breasts than usual (more than 1.5 inches)
  • Large or puffy areolas (the area around the nipple)
  • Saggy appearance due to higher breast folds
  • An overall underdeveloped look
  • A narrower breast base
  • Breast asymmetry (one breast significantly larger than the other)

What Causes Tubular Breasts?

It is not entirely clear what causes tubular breasts. Doctors believe that those affected by the condition are born with it, but that it does not become clear until puberty, between the ages of 10-15 years when the breasts begin to develop.

What are the Effects of Tubular Breasts?

While doctors have established that there are no physical health risks associated with tuberous breasts, often the condition can have detrimental impacts on one’s mental health, with many experiencing low self-esteem. So, it comes as no surprise that surgery to correct tubular breasts is a popular option amongst women and men in the UK.

How to Fix Tubular Breasts: Tubular Breast Correction Surgery

At present, cosmetic surgery is the only known treatment to correct the appearance of tuberous breasts.
There are several surgery options when it comes to correcting tubular breasts. During your consultation, your surgeon will discuss the best options for you based on your individual circumstances and desired outcomes. Your surgical procedure may involve a breast enlargement, breast lift and nipple correction.

Typically, tubular breast correction surgery involves two steps:

  • Firstly, your surgeon may insert a tissue expander into the smaller breast to even out the size difference.
  • A second operation then involves fitting the breast implants to lift and fill the breast area.

Another step that may be necessary is nipple correction, known as a mastopexy, and this may form part of your correction surgery based on your desired outcome.
Tubular breast correction surgery takes place under general anaesthetic, and typically takes between 1-2 hours to perform depending on the type of breast augmentation you’re having.
If you are unhappy with your tubular breasts and wish to go ahead with medical treatment to reshape and resize your breasts, we are the UK’s leading cosmetic surgery provider. We will discuss all options with you during the free consultation. We are highly professional at Enhance and provide you with complete confidentiality throughout the whole of the process.

How Much Does Tubular Breast Surgery Cost?

At Enhance, the cost of tubular breast correction surgery starts at £4,250. We offer a range of monthly finance options. After all, confidence shouldn’t be exclusive, so we’re removing the financial barriers to feeling good. As your first consultation is free, this cost covers:

  • Pre-operative assessment
  • Tubular breast correction surgery and surgical care team
  • Post-operative aftercare for 12 months

The cost of the surgery depends on the type of tubular breast surgery you have. If you have tubular breast surgery with implants, the minimum cost would be £4,250, as this is the cost of a breast enlargement.

If your tubular breast correction surgery involved a breast or nipple lift, the cost would be higher – take a look at our breast augmentation pricing where you’ll find more information about the cost of nipple lifts and corrections.

At Enhance we own our own hospitals, and we only use our dedicated in-house surgeons, therefore we can pass our savings such as overheads and agency fees to our patients to ensure we can offer the best possible price as well as the best & dedicated care in the UK.

Recovering from Tubular Breast Correction Surgery

Like any breast augmentation, the recovery timeline for tubular breast correction surgery varies from person to person depending on individual circumstances and the type of breast augmentation you have had. Typically, it takes six weeks to fully recover from tubular breast correction surgery. By this time, swelling should have subsided any you should not be experiencing any discomfort.

Following the day of your surgery, you will need to take one-two weeks off work and avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting.

Swelling and discomfort are normal following surgery, and this can be managed with pain medication. With regular post-operative appointments, your surgeon and our dedicated aftercare team will advise on the type of medication you can take, the type of support bra you should wear and provide any other information that can aid your recovery.

FAQ's

It is likely that you have many questions when it comes to tubular breast surgery. To help you understand more before the free consultation, we have added several questions commonly asked during the consultation here.

Book An Appointment
  • How do I know if I have tubular breasts?

You may have tubular breasts if you have unusually shaped, widely spaced, and/or sagging breasts. You may also recognise that your nipples are enlarged. Often patients incorrectly diagnose themselves after researching online and using photographs for comparison. Arrange a free consultation with us to be sure.

  • Will I require time off work after tubular breast surgery?

Each patient is different, but it is usual to take a week off to recover, unless your job involves lifting or carrying.  In this case you would be advised to take longer to recover.  You will be instructed as to what medications you should apply or take, the type of bra to wear, and general information to aid your recovery.

  • What results can I achieve from tubular breast surgery?

We endeavour to achieve the best results every time here at Enhance.  We work with you from the initial consultation to ensure that you are realistic about the potential outcome.  We expect fabulous results, but the body is naturally asymmetric, so slight unevenness is not uncommon.
