Blepharoplasty / Eye Bag Removal

Blepharoplasty

Also known as eye bag surgery, blepharoplasty removes excess skin above or under the eye area to give you a younger look.

Blepharoplasty may be right for you if:

  • Your undereye area has dropped as a result of age or genetic predisposition
  • The skin above your eyes has fallen, giving you a “hooded” look
  • You have fatty deposits or wrinkles above or below your eyes

The Blepharoplasty Procedure

During the blepharoplasty procedure, your surgeon makes a very precise initial incision within the natural fold of your upper or lower eyelid.then, fatty deposits are repositioned or removed to achieve a brighter, younger look. Finally, your surgeon takes away excess skin and then draws the remaining skin tight, finishing the process with dissolvable sutures or surgical glue.

Step 1

The incision is made along and under the lower lashes to remove excess fat and skin causing eye bags.

Step 2

The incision is closed hiding the scar beneath the lashes.

The Recovery Process

Some surgeons prescribe antibiotic ointment after blepharoplasty, which helps to speed healing and prevent infection. You’ll see the full results of your eyelid surgery when your bruising subsides, which can be as soon as a month after your procedure.

Important Questions About Blepharoplasty / Eye Bag Removal

What happens during eyebag surgery?

Cosmetic surgery to correct bags under the eyes is technically called lower blepharoplasty. The procedure removes excess skin and fat in the area beneath the eyes, to provide tauter skin.

After the procedure, this patient’s eyes and face look much brighter and more youthful without the eye bags.  This patient chose to have both upper and lower blepharoplasty (i.e. eyelids and eyebag removal) for a great result that really turned the years back.

How is the procedure carried out?

The procedure is carried out under General Anaesthetic and you will stay overnight before you return home. You can expect some swelling and bruising in the first couple of weeks but can wear make-up again after a week.

What other treatments could I consider?

Many customers choose to combine eye bag surgery with eyelid surgery to provide more dramatic results. Either or both of these could also be combined with a face-lift for the full make-over.
